Adding a Putting Green for National Golf Month
If you're a golf lover and have space in your yard, you've probably thought about adding a putting green to your home. August is National Golf Month, so let's break down the process of adding your own personal practice space.
First, the grass. Natural grass is appealing, but maintaining a proper putting green can be time-consuming and expensive, requiring frequent mowing, rolling, and watering. While good-quality artificial turf can be pricey, it's worth it in the long-term.
That said, not all artificial turf is appropriate for putting. You'll want to work with a qualified installer who knows the intended end use and can advise you on preparation, drainage, infill, turf material and pile height. If you have the space, you can even add a sand trap and some slope to your green to really improve your game. Once installed, there's very little maintenance involved with an artificial turf putting green aside from an occasional pass with a broom or leaf blower. In return, you'll enjoy a free putting practice space!
